Oluwatosin Maala was connected with International Fovea-Z Biomedical since June 2024.Oluwatosin Maala is an adept Biomedical Engineer and Technology Specialist with a rich six-year experience in the clinical and laboratory equipment management landscape. Presently working at SynLab Nigeria since January 2023, he has contributed significantly to diagnostic precision by ensuring the smooth operation of diagnostic equipment, thereby enhancing patient care and treatment outcomes. His role is crucial in guaranteeing that medical equipment used in diagnostic processes is functioning optimally, preventing any disruptions in the critical diagnostic and therapeutic procedures that rely on accurate equipment.


In his current capacity at SynLab, Oluwatosin focuses on comprehensive maintenance, which involves daily inspection, on-site and remote tracking, as well as monitoring downtimes of diagnostic equipment. He handles a range of complex diagnostic instruments, including Beckman AU 680 & 460, Beckman Coulter DXI 800, Beckman DXC 700, Beckman Access II, Vitek, Mini Vidas, Biorad D10, Mindray BC 3000, Biobase Autoclave, and Histoline tissue processors, to name a few. Besides this, he conducts maintenance on smaller laboratory equipment such as microscopes, centrifuges, orbital shakers, and weight scales. He is also responsible for implementing a Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM) schedule, along with rigorous internal and external quality control measures (IQA and EQA), aligning SynLab’s practices with global standards.


A crucial aspect of Oluwatosin’s role involves training medical staff and technicians on the proper use and maintenance of these technologies. His training efforts ensure that healthcare providers can maximize equipment performance and reduce operational errors. His role extends beyond technical maintenance as he collaborates with teams to innovate and develop efficient systems for problem-solving, gathering feedback, and continuously improving workflows.


Previously, Oluwatosin worked at Medcourt Support Services for over four years, where he gained diverse experience in troubleshooting, repair, and project management as an Executive Biomedical Engineer. His responsibilities included resolving complex issues with medical equipment and participating in clinical trials, which allowed him to apply his engineering skills to the research and development aspects of medical technology. Before Medcourt, he completed an internship as an equipment engineering assistant at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), where he was first exposed to the intricacies of biomedical equipment.


Oluwatosin’s educational background includes a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Ilorin, where he served as President of the National Association of Biomedical Engineering Students (NABMES), demonstrating his leadership abilities early on. He holds multiple certifications, including the Google IT Support Professional Certificate, Biomedical Equipment Technology Certificate, and Google Digital Skills Certificate, which have enriched his understanding of IT support, soft skills, and digital tools essential for modern biomedical engineering practices.
